Orthotics for Every Symptom
OSC Medical, in Overland Park, KS, provides orthotic products which can be made with considerations of your specific foot condition in mind. We have extensive experience working with patients of all ages with a wide variety of orthopedic needs, including, diabetics, children, athletes, elderly, veterans, and the everyday walking professional. There are many different types of orthotics available depending on the specific condition being treated. Some common types of orthotics include arch supports, heel cushions, metatarsal pads, and toe spacers.
Your feet were designed to grip and adjust to dirt and grass underfoot as you move. Nowadays, most people live and work on hard concrete and stiff flooring, preventing feet from functioning as purposed. Consequently, your feet need more than the flimsy, unsupportive inserts that come in your shoes. You need true support and a design that is optimized for your specific feet.
What is Orthotics?
Your feet are the foundation of your health. Foot pain and discomfort is evidence of larger issues that can extend to your knees, hips, and back. Orthotics, also known as orthoses, refers to any device inserted into a shoe, ranging from felt pads to custom-made shoe inserts that correct an abnormal or irregular, walking pattern. These devices are worn inside the shoes to support, align, prevent, or correct deformities of the feet or lower limbs. They can be custom-made or prefabricated. Custom-made orthotics are made from a cast or impression of the foot and are designed specifically for the individual. Prefabricated orthotics are mass-produced and come in a variety of sizes and shapes.
Sometimes called arch supports, orthotics allows people to stand, walk, and run more efficiently and comfortably. While over-the-counter orthotic are available and may help people with mild symptoms, they normally cannot correct the wide range of symptoms that prescription foot orthoses can since they are not custom made to fit an individual’s unique foot structure.
